Pioneer North America announced today the addition of John Godfrey to its staff as vice president of government and industry affairs, a new position created to increase Pioneer's role in public policy decisions related to digital television, broadband and wireless issues. Godfrey will promote public policy that benefits Pioneer's business interests as well as the interests of the consumer electronics industry as a whole.

“We're very pleased to have John join our team,” said Tom Haga, president of Pioneer North America. “There are numerous public policy issues that determine our ability to continually pioneer innovative new consumer electronics. John will help us ensure that we can offer the best possible new products to our customers.”

Godfrey was a lead electronics industry negotiator in the 2002 one-way Cable Plug & Play agreement developed by the Cable Working Group under the Consumer Electronics Association's Video Division Board. He continues to work on this issue as vice chair of the Cable Working Group for the Interactive Cable Plug & Play initiative. Godfrey also serves as vice chair of the Consumer Electronics Association Government Affairs Council.

Godfrey comes to Pioneer from Sony where he was director of government affairs. Prior to joining Sony, Godfrey was senior director of technology policy at the Information Technology Industry Council, an association of leading information technology companies.

Pioneer's new office of government affairs is located at 3 Bethesda Metro Center, Suite 700, Bethesda, MD 20814, 301-961-1503.
